§ /about/ Studio
About *Via Hesed*.
A small studio for software built slowly, with care.
Via Hesed is a venture studio. We build, support, and operate a small portfolio of software companies — each chosen because the work matters more than the multiple, and because we’d rather ship one thing well than ten things passably.
The name comes from the Hebrew חסד (ḥesed) — the kind of steady, covenantal kindness that shows up over years rather than moments. It’s how we want to make software: patient, honest, and durable.
What the studio does
- Incubates ventures. Six companies are on the bench; the work happens in long arcs, not pitch decks. See the journal and case studies.
- Operates them. We don’t hand companies off. The studio is the long-term operator, not a launchpad.
- Writes the work down. Everything we learn that we can share, we share — in long-form essays, build logs, and digital-garden notes.
Four rules we will not break
- Build slowly. A year of patience saves three years of cleanup.
- Charge fairly. Software that earns its keep is software that lasts.
- Stay small. Constraint is a feature.
- Tell the truth. In our copy, in our pricing, and in our retros.
Where we are
Brooklyn, New York. The studio is built around long working sessions, shipping small things often, and answering email like grown-ups.
Who runs it
Via Hesed is founded and operated by Carter. For inquiries, the contact page is the fastest channel.
How this site is built
A small Jekyll template, plain Markdown, one CSS file, and a few
hand-written layouts — no framework. The design tokens live at the top of
assets/css/style.css; the build runs on Cloudflare Pages. See
CLAUDE.md in the repo for the full tour.
